The Belarusian Red Cross has welcomed a delegation of the Turkish Red Crescent led by President Kerem Kinik on a visit to Belarus. The Turkish Red Crescent and the Belarusian Red Cross have signed a memorandum of understanding, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Red Cross.

During the visit the parties exchanged information on the main areas of work of the national societies of Belarus and Turkey, paying special attention to the problems of assistance to migrants and asylum seekers as well as popularization of blood donation.

“Our interaction is very important for the development of our national societies. We work within common international approaches of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The experience of our partners, the Turkish Red Crescent, is very interesting for the Belarusian Red Cross, and we are also ready to share our best practices. Our cooperation is collaboration for the solution of problems and tasks our national societies face. The tasks are large-scale and complicated, and the experience of the Turkish Red Crescent in the assistance to migrants, emergency recovery, cash voucher assistance is the global experience of work which we would like to study and adopt,” Secretary General of the Belarusian Red Cross Dmitry Shevtsov said.

The visit included an extended meeting with Head of Country Cluster Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies John Entwistle and Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mission to Belarus Sebastien Fustier. The parties discussed prospects for joint interaction in addressing a number of humanitarian tasks and coordinating actions to help migrants.

A delegation of the Turkish Red Crescent is planned to go to Grodno, where it has been supporting the implementation of the project “Preparedness for emergency and crisis situations and reduction of harm to the population of Grodno Oblast” since June 2021. They are to meet with volunteers of the Grodno regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross and also visit the NPP Information Center (Ostrovets) and the Grodno Oblast Department of the Emergencies Ministry of Belarus.
