More than 4,700 haulers were queuing in Belarus to cross the border with the European Union as of 10.00 on 23 February, BelTA learned from the website of the State Border Committee.
More than 550 trucks were queuing at the Belarus-Latvia border at the Grigorovshchina checkpoint and over 880 at Urbany.
Over 290 heavy-duty trucks were waiting to cross the border with Lithuania at the Vidzy checkpoint, 500 at Kotlovka, over 430 at Kamenny Log, over 540 at Benyakoni, and over 250 at Privalka.
More than 450 trucks were waiting to cross the Belarus-Poland border at the Berestovitsa border checkpoint, and over 850 at Kozlovichi.
“Lithuania and Poland are not taking measures to speed up border crossing,” the committee said.
Lithuania and Poland accounted for 65% of the total heavy-duty truck throughput capacity. Most of the trucks are waiting in front of Lithuania's Salcininkai (Benyakoni) and Poland's Kukuryki (Kozlovichi).
Within the past 24 hours Latvia complied with the agreements, with vehicles entering the country without delays. Most of the vehicles are registered at the Silene checkpoint (Urbany).
Long waiting time for crossing the Lithuanian border leads to significant load on truck drivers, as well as financial losses of carriers and organizations. In this regard, the Lithuanian Customs Department, together with the Lithuanian National Road Carriers Association, made proposals to increase the number of customs officers at Lithuanian border crossing points and to optimize vehicle clearance procedures. So far Lithuanian authorities have not taken any measures to speed up border crossing.
